Gorgeous Grandma Day

Gorgeous Grandma Day was founded in 1984 by Alice Solomon. After she graduated at the age of 50 from Wellesley College, she felt society viewed women her age and older as senior citizens who were no longer useful or relevant.

Solomon realized that “grandma” was a term denoting older women, whether actually grandmothers or not. For some extra pizzazz she added “gorgeous” to the title and created Gorgeous Grandma Day.

Thursday, July 23rd is the next official Gorgeous Grandma Day or take a significant woman who is 50 or older for a day out.

Be sure to check your local social distancing and community guidelines. If possible, treat her to lunch at her favorite restaurant, have a picnic in a sunny park, make it a ladies day with mani and pedicures, simply enjoy ice cream cones together or give her a call if she lives a long distance away.

This is also a good time to remember your loved ones with favorite memories you can share with family members or reminisce while looking through a family album.
