Better Speech and Hearing Month

Historically individuals with speech and language impairments have struggled to connect with others. Speech language pathology resources have surged in recent years, allowing people who need help to seek treatment much more easily without stigma.

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) includes professionals such as speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and speech/ language/hearing scientists. Together ASHA founded Better Speech and Hearing Month (observed annually in May), to promote awareness about speech and hearing disorders. Their ultimate goal is to assist with the prevention of hearing loss, and to encourage people to seek treatment for hearing and speech-related issues.

This year ASHA decided on the theme of Connecting People. Feeling isolated or misunderstood can be devastating to mental health and our ability to receive help when we are in need. By sharing information on the official ASHA website, this group does their best to highlight resources and life-altering treatment for communication disorders.
