Military Appreciation Month

American flag

The month of May is designated as military appreciation month and kicks off with Loyalty Day. Military Appreciation Month (MAM) became officially designated by Congress in 1999. The U.S. President makes a proclamation every year to pay tribute to all who have sacrificed serving our country and encourages U.S. citizens to observe the month in a symbol of unity.

Show your appreciation with one or more of the following:

  • Donate to a military charity
  • Buy a member of the military a drink, a coffee or a meal
  • Call, text, or video chat with a loved one who served
  • Send a note, card or care package to soldiers
  • Pay respects at a military cemetery or memorial
